Teach girls bravery

Hi everyone
Well worth a watch when you have 12 minutes, food for thought, not just about bravery in girls!

Blurb from the TED:
We're raising our girls to be perfect, and we're raising our boys to be brave, says Reshma Saujani, the founder of Girls Who Code. Saujani has taken up the charge to socialize young girls to take risks and learn to program — two skills they need to move society forward. To truly innovate, we cannot leave behind half of our population, she says. "I need each of you to tell every young woman you know to be comfortable with imperfection."

Hi all,
You might find this a useful wee reading to help with small steps. I like the 80-20 analogy...

Work Life (Balance?) Satisfaction

Hi all,
One of the stands at our conference last week was one called 'Happy School'.
I have subscribed to a five week trial where they will send me readings over this time. Here is the first one, about work life satisfaction, not balance.
Enjoy!

2016 - Growth Mindset - USE CAT MEMES (Tori)

Implement CAT MEME's to promote Growth Mindset with your children.

I think it is SO important that children learn that mistakes are valued. I encourage students to complete Maths in pen - crossing out mistakes and trying again is a learning tool I use to let children know that this is evidence of their development.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our 2016 big idea is 'LEAGUE'. This is all about how we can be a small, valuable part of a bigger idea. That idea might be a group, homebase, country or planet. Part of working together is developing and growing based on our expanding world.

We are encouraging our students to develop their growth mindset by evaluating and expanding their world view. Looking to the future, we are engaging the children by developing their own fictional country and understanding the benefit and restrictions different cultures and environments can face. They are growing in their empathy for others, especially those that are different or come from different circumstances. Taking steps to weed out fixed-mindset behaviours and language from our classes and our cultures in order to develop strategies towards becoming more growth-oriented might bring us part of the way.

We continue encourage development, exploration and reflection including the celebration of mistakes as a learning process.

Growth Mindset PLD

Talofa team,
Here is the link to this week's PLD session - work through the slides at your own pace.  There are opportunities for small group discussions so ensure a learning buddy or two are close by.   The growth mindset task (quote, video or picture book) is to be completed and posted on this blog by the end of Week 1, Term 2.  Keep on moving forward!
