Teaching as Inquiry - Literacy
Teaching as Inquiry - Literacy (Jason, Anita, Claire, Kent, Rach, Tania, Serena)
All team have updated their appraisal doc with all the relevant information and what each focus is.
Claire/Anita - Sharp Reading 7+ course, as a team shared and from that they have implemented Sharp reading with an intervention group. This group is pitched at those children at Level 19, who have stopped RR and need a boast and need work on word attack skills. Both have implemented the stage 2 & 3 of Sharp Reading, and children have had an attitude survey, outcomes showed that they liked the programme and story-bites which are used in the programme. All data so far from R/Records that they steady progress and the comp skill have improved.
Kent/Rachel - Low ability reluctant readers, focus on milage, majority don't read at home, and both teachers have a precision group to work with 4x a week. All the children love the structure of the Sharp programme. All teachers have seen an improvement on their word attack skills and confidence to attack unknown words independently. Rachel and Kent are in the stage of moving into the 5 bits stage, which is a similar programme with more independence, comprehension and understanding.
Jason - Extending high readers and maintaining engagers. Started literacy circles after professional discussions with Kent. Jason is using a board range of text to develop working independently, discussion, inference, comprehension and summary. Jason spends time unlocking vocabulary which they can read, but don't necessary understand.
Tania - Low Ability Readers (See Tania for her explanation on what TAP's means???)
She has created a home reading pack on a 5 week rotation. Based on J/Journals and text is easier to focus on mileage. Rev-up reading is also being used to develop fluency and comprehension with success. A majority focus on fluency, using plays, and presentations in small groups. Tania is also seeing progress with her R/Records, children are able to show more depth of understanding with comp answers (eg: full sentences)
Serena - Low Ability Readers/Writers - Focus is on working with individuals daily. Children get the books the week before so they have a good knowledge of the book before they come to the teacher. This is helped moved the tail further towards National Standards. A focus by the teacher is on reading the book to, then the child reads by themselves, then read with the teacher. So now I am at the stage at finding research to back up what I am doing.
